OG flowers #11 combines oversized flower shapes with a grid of smaller floral images. Transparent rectangles interrupt the composition, while a jigsaw pattern runs through much of its surface. Saturated red, pink, yellow and blue give the recognizable motif a restless, fragmented structure.
The image is one of 100 made by an anonymous user of Sollfrank’s net.art generator on 22 May 2010. The software searches for and recombines existing online material, producing collages rather than drawing each form from scratch. These works belong to the anonymous-warhol_flowers series and to This is not by me, her investigation of authorship, originality and copyright begun in 2004.
The series was released as NFTs in 2022 for NfTNeTArT: From Net Art to Art NFT, organized by panke.gallery and OFFICE IMPART in Berlin. In her account of the project, Sollfrank links the images’ 2010 date to the celebrated purchase of pizza with Bitcoin. More centrally, the release asks what happens when images made through copying and anonymous participation acquire distinct, tradable identities on a blockchain.
