This 1950 color photograph predates the earliest dated Ben Laposky Oscillon prints from 1952, placing Hirsh’s work at the very beginning of oscilloscope-based art.
Provenance
From the estate of Hy Hirsh, acquired by Paul M. Hertzmann in 2002. Estate inventory 4823.

The composition brings together several distinct oscilloscope patterns: tangled looping traces within the turquoise rectangle, repeated hooked signals inside the blue disk, and dense horizontal sweeps filling the paired magenta forms. A separate white oscilloscope trace crosses the entire image diagonally, linking these otherwise discrete electronic events into a single rhythmic field.
