Created in 2020, Appropriate Response invites a kneeling visitor to receive an aphorism generated by an early large language model (AI LLM). At the inaugural Zero 10 at Art Basel Miami Beach 2025, the existing installation gained an NFT series: attendees could claim and mint the phrase from their encounter.

The installation was conceived in 2020. Its first NFT series was released through Onkaos and Verse for Zero 10, Art Basel Miami Beach, in December 2025, enabling attendees to claim and mint the phrase from their encounter. This token was minted on 7 December 2025.
The original 2020 installation pairs a wooden kneeler with a mechanical display of 120 characters. A visitor kneels, and its language model offers a short, seemingly authoritative statement. The ritual makes expectation central to the work: the machine supplies words, while the visitor supplies their meaning.
Klingemann adapted GPT-2 for this work, which predates the initial public release of ChatGPT by at least two years. Mario Klingemann was awarded with the Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica 2020 for this artwork.
Onkaos brought the existing kneeler-and-screen installation to the inaugural Zero 10 at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2025. The new element was an NFT series, now comprising 97 unique works: attendees could subsequently claim the phrase displayed during their encounter and mint it as a digital work showing an animated software rendering of the installation’s display.
