A twenty-by-twenty grid of artificial rose petals shifts through concentric bands and fields of red, pink, cream and yellow. Organic variation and geometric order develop together as the petals continuously change shape and color.

In Infinite Petals 20x20#1751, individual petals occupy a regular square grid while their changing colors create larger patterns. Concentric squares loosen into patches and rings; red and pink give way to pale yellow and cream. Each cell remains distinct, yet the eye also reads a continuous moving surface.
The petals were generated by a generative adversarial network trained on the 100,000 photographs assembled for Cloud of Petals. Moving between positions in the model’s 512-dimensional latent space produces transitions between imagined flowers. Human selection and photographic labor thus underpin images that appear to grow without a physical original.
Released in 2025 with Fellowship, Infinite Petals comprises 3,291 video works, echoing the number of real petals preserved from the earlier project. This work is a rendered video, rather than a generator creating new sequences in the browser. Its connection to Bitchcoin joins two outcomes of the same undertaking: a finite archive of physical petals and an expandable world of synthetic ones.
