Madrid, Spain

Iskra Velitchkova (b. 1988) is a Bulgarian artist based in Madrid whose generative practice explores the relationship between human decisions and computational systems. Repeated lines and subtle shifts of color produce forms that suggest birds, organisms and unfamiliar landscapes. Her work moves between software, drawing, print and physical materials.

Iskra Velitchkova (Искра Величкова) works with generative systems to investigate how recognizable forms arise from abstract rules. Her images often hover between a living creature and a structure of lines: a curve may suggest a wing, a shell or a body without describing any one of them.

Her work has been presented by Feral File, Unit London, Bright Moments and Kate Vass Galerie. Field Guide (2022), curated by Jason Bailey, brought her paired works Hypothetically Micro and Hypothetically Macro into an exhibition about imagined life. Later projects include Escape (2023), INK for Art Blocks Curated (2024), and Aux carrés, commissioned for the exhibitions In Search of Vera Molnár at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest and Pera Museum in Istanbul. These projects place her practice within a contemporary continuation of algorithmic art, connecting code with close observation of form and material.
