METASOTO responds to Soto’s Bois-tiges de fer (1964), in which suspended metal wires interact visually with painted lines. Reas moves white lines across a fixed black structure, producing optical interference through software. Clicking introduces another configuration; reloading begins the sequence again.
The work was presented in Feral File’s Peer to Peer exhibition, curated by Tina Rivers Ryan. Reas’s inventory lists 64 collector works. The live program remains the primary form of the artwork, with stills serving as views into its changing structure.
