A cloud of fine black strokes surrounds a pale, roughly central opening. Lines cross at changing angles, gathering into darker passages around the sides and lower edge, while scattered marks loosen the perimeter. The effect depends on the relationship between the marks and the white spaces they leave visible. At a distance the overlapping lines appear as broad tonal areas; closer inspection resolves them into individual segments.
Light was released in 2023 as part of PROOF Grails IV. Dehlinger described his intention as creating a calm, unobtrusive work that rewards deliberate attention. Its quietness is therefore part of the artistic proposition: the composition becomes more active as the viewer follows the direction and concentration of its lines.
