Dehlinger developed the composition in 2001 from code written for a pen plotter. Many polygonal lines begin within a small area at the bottom of the drawing. Their initial segments rise vertically; subsequent segments spread upward and outward, stopping at the limits of the image. A constrained procedure produces the impression of organic growth.
The artist associates the blue with a summer sky and the yellow with harvest. These color choices introduce a direct reference to landscape into a work constructed through numerical instructions. The image is a useful example of how his algorithmic practice can remain connected to familiar forms without describing their contours by hand.
EXPANDED.ART issued Yellow Tree in August 2023 through Pioneer Grails. The NFT preserves a fixed color composition derived from the earlier vector work. Its historical date and its edition date describe different stages of the same work’s development and circulation.
