Expanding Dream is DCA’s contribution to Bright Moments’ Venice finale in April 2024. This work is token #794 within the multi-artist Finale collection, one of only twenty outputs by DCA. Human figures, flower- or wheel-like radial forms, geometric enclosures and organic structures enter a scene that continually changes its arrangement.
In the state shown here, a wiry blue figure appears among brown rectangular outlines and dense blue hatching. The fragmented marks make the scene look unstable, as if its subjects were being assembled and taken apart at once. Recognizable forms suggest a narrative, but their changing relationships leave that narrative unresolved.
Moving lines cut through the composition and displace parts of its forms. Material that passes beyond the canvas is removed, while new forms replenish the scene. Gradual color shifts and repeated fragmentation allow the drawing to keep developing as the software runs. The animation is generated in real time rather than replayed from a recorded video. Its figures and structures share a visual vocabulary across the series, with each token producing its own sequence of encounters and recombinations.
