The title refers to bokashi, the graduated application of ink used in Japanese woodblock printing. DCA takes that gradual transition of tone as the subject of the image, extending it through algorithmic shifts in hue. Each output’s colors are generated without a predefined palette. The result gives a familiar geometric form an individual atmosphere.
This is output #40 from Spire (Bokashi Cone), presented in PROOF’s Grails V in 2023.
