Device 1 uses several functions operating simultaneously on a grid of characters. Their interaction mixes geometric primitives with organic forms and gives the typographic surface its changing behavior. The title comes from the sequence of bootable devices listed in a computer’s BIOS, connecting the work to the ordinary language of computing.
Output #105 uses the S3 palette, Block density, variable geometry and MX layout. The live software offers scale controls and exports both text snapshots and PNG images, allowing a moment from the animation to be preserved in either its character-based or rendered form.
