Pink linear shapes advance across a black field. X-Y-Z uses a typeface extracted from vintage 1980s Hewlett-Packard vector displays to turn letters, numbers and geometric planes into a changing three-dimensional structure.

Commissioned by Flamingo DAO with support from Tribute Labs; released in December 2024.

Gysin extracted the coordinates of a single-line typeface from a public ROM dump of vintage HP vector displays, including the HP1345 and HP1349. Designed with very few vertices and no curves, the glyphs reflect the memory and rendering constraints of that equipment. X-Y-Z animates them through a custom three-dimensional stroke-geometry renderer.
Commissioned by Flamingo DAO with support from Tribute Labs, the series was released in December 2024. Token #475 has the triangular shape setting. The software offers controls for stroke weight, perspective and other display parameters, and allows the viewer to pause the animation or export a PNG.
